`DEFCON 352 Regular Meeting`

Join us at the Alachua County Headquarters Library on June 17 at 5:15 in the Foundation Room for an introduction to Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions.

A CTF is a puzzle-solving competition designed to teach about topics related to hacking and cybersecurity. Teams solve a series of challenges in which the goal is to obtain a hidden password, or "flag." There are a variety of ways that a flag can be hidden: players might need to gain access to a webpage, reverse-engineer a program, decipher an encrypted message, or exploit vulnerabilities in a binary.

At the meeting, you'll get a chance to work on several beginner-friendly challenges. You'll need to bring a laptop in order to access them. If you don't have a laptop, you can work together with someone who does.

What is DEFCON

DEFCON is one of the world's largest and longest standing hacker conferences, the original conference in what's now known as Hacker Summer Camp during summer in Las Vegas.

What's up with these DEFCON Groups?

The DEF CON Groups were spawned from the annual DEF CON security conference in Las Vegas. The DEF CON Groups (DCGs or DC-Groups) are a gathering point for folks interested in the alternate applications of modern technology, referred to properly as 'hacking'. DCGs are not intended to compete with any other computer groups, such as 2600, but rather to provide yet another gathering place for the discussion of technology and security topics. DCG meetings are open to anyone, regardless of their skill, age, job, gender, etc. DCGs are designed to help you learn new things, meet new people, mentor others in areas you may be strong in, and provide some cohesion within the hacker culture and it's members.

What is DC352

DC 352 is the Gainesville, FL local DEF CON group. The goal of DC352 is to support people in discovering, employing, and improving knowledge and skills that allow them to transform the world into a better place for them and others. We embrace the notion that hacking is a mindset, not a toolset. This group is intended to support hackers in Gainesville and surrounding areas.
